Position Overview

The Globe and Mail is seeking to expand its front-end development capabilities with the addition of a Front-end Developer to the Digital Experience Product Engineering team. In this position you will work as part of the team responsible for the majority of customer facing experiences on Your work will be seen and used by The Globe and Mail’s audience of millions across Canada and the world.

This is a unique opportunity for a front-end developer at the intermediate stages of their career to join a supportive, smart, quality focused team. You’ll learn a lot from your colleagues and you’ll make meaningful contributions to how customers experience our digital products.

What You Will Do

In your first year at The Globe and Mail you can expect to:

collaborate with your colleagues in Product, UX Design, Digital Development and Data Science to help define, build, test and deploy new features for learn about and become familiar with the platform that powers our web digital experience, Arc XP develop experimental features designed to improve customer experiences while showcasing our journalism in new and interesting ways maintain and improve the existing codebase, address technical debt participate in code reviews, build design system components, share your knowledge with the team, stay up-to-date with the latest front-end technologies and trends

Qualifications

3-5 years experience . You’re in the intermediate stages of your career and you have experience developing websites or web applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Git and consuming third party APIs. You are familiar with Figma and may have some experience using AWS Lambda and the Serverless framework on previous projects. Proactive mindset . Your curiosity, communication skills, positive mindset, resourcefulness, and awareness of the team’s larger objectives will help propel our digital products forward. Quality driven. You have a passion for quality and detail and take pride in producing organized, well-documented, maintainable code and improving existing code.

have significant prior experience developing server/client-rendered websites or applications with React have previously worked as part of an agile team possess knowledge about web accessibility, web performance or web networking/http best practices have prior experience working with or developing design systems have experience with React Testing Library or have practiced Test Driven Development are keen to advance the future of digital journalism
