About the role

Location: ALS Environmental, Burlington

Reports to: Organics Manager

Classification: LA2

About the Position:

This position is responsible for performing simple and complex sample preparations and extractions, routine laboratory maintenance tasks and simple analyses.

Specific Responsibilities

Sample disposal, assists analysts, Retrieve samples from storage, Store samples in sample cooler Weighing and traying samples under supervision Operate lab instrument/equipment such as pipettes, shakers, centrifuges, pH meters etc; Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance and repair as required; Perform sample preparation – filtration, screening, extraction and digestion; Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc; Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.); Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation; General laboratory clean-up and maintenance, monitor controlled equipment; Clean and maintain glassware and lab ware, Assist in sample flow and archiving as well as data archiving; Perform all required quality control procedures; Produce all tasks within specific turnaround times (TAT); Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be a careful and meticulous worker; Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel); Must be capable of working with minimal supervision; Must be well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team; Ability to work in a fast paced environment ; Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent; Previous Lab experience, full training will be provided.

Physical Demands

Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required; Ability to stand for a full shift; You may be exposed to unpleasant odours; Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
