The position will be responsible for coordinating environmental policies and regulations, including assessment and technical analysis related to the Official Community Plan, sub-area plans (e.g. neighbourhood plans sector plans), regulatory bylaws (zoning bylaw and subdivision and development servicing bylaw) and applying relevant provincial regulations. The position will also help in advancing environmental policy direction and development at the City. Duties - Union • Provides professional advice, prepares research support and coordinates meetings on matters related to development proposals, City projects and policy initiatives as related to the environment.
• Provides an environmental review and assessment of various public and City applications. Including some environmental design of projects, as necessary, while ensuring compliance with applicable federal/provincial/municipal acts, bylaws and best management practices.
• Coordinates with provincial ministries, consultants and other government agencies to ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
• Maintains a working industry knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal legislation, policies and guidelines.
• Responds to public inquiries and complaints.
• Coordinates the protection of environmentally sensitive areas.
• Coordinates the collection of environmentally sensitive area information.
• Provides record keeping and coordination services for environmental projects.
• Identifies environmental issues as they relate to services and functions of the City.
• Provides guidance to staff to ensure adherence to environmental best practices.
• Ability to work in a fast paced multi-task environment. Results and Activities - Non union Credentials - Union • Diploma in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management or Environmental Planning
• BC Drivers License – Class 5
