About the role 

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary  Part-time Plasma Nurse to join our dynamic Plasma Operations team

The Plasma Operations team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by establishing the planning framework and operational infrastructure necessary to meet plasma collection goals. This team advances our strategy in securing a domestic supply of plasma for immune globulin and ensuring Canadians have access to these life-saving products. In this role, you will act as an ambassador of the plasma donation program and promote and contribute to a collaborative and donor-centric work environment.

Formula for success 

Leveraging your ability to communicate effectively with donors, you will conduct registration and confidential screening to determine eligibility and build and promote a positive donor experience.

Utilizing your strong people skills, you will provide donors with information, instruction, and advice on plasma donation.

Drawing on your knowledge and experience you will provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.

With your excellent interpersonal skills, you will work in a diverse team environment assisting in the collection of plasma, including performing venepuncture according to established standards, which save lives daily. 

Your excellent attention to detail will be utilized in ensuring completeness of information in our IT system for products, when completing the labelling process for products, and when preparing products for freezing, centrifuging and shipment to our testing facilities. 

Drawing on your knowledge or experience in continuous improvement, you will contribute to the framework of continuous improvement and implementation of best practice standards with the team. 

Desired education and skills

Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required. 

2 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse is considered an asset as is a certification in First Aid and CPR. 

Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset. 

Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.

A second language is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience.

Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
