Description

Job Summary:

The Modeling Lead reports to the Modeling Supervisor and is responsible for creating both hard surface and organic models. The Lead will also be tasked with guiding new artists through studio artistic and technical standards and practices.

Responsibilities:

• Build production-ready, artistically appealing, and technically sound 3D models based on specific needs of each project, while balancing needs of all downstream departments.
• Sculpt character maquettes as needed.
• Revise and/or cleanup models sent by clients.
• Assist Supervisor with review of artist work for technical and artistic standards.
• Help guide new hires in use of pipeline tools and best practices.
• Prepare guides and documentation to teach new tools or workflows to other artists.
• Identify any issues/problems and work with Supervisor to plan corrective action.
• Actively recognize excellent performance from artists.
• Critique models both artistically and technically, and provide constructive feedback as needed.
• Troubleshoot existing problems.
• Coordinate with Supervisor to investigate new tools and workflows that may add to existing practices.

Qualifications:

• Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Feature Film, Commercial and/or Video Game production
• Knowledge of current industry production processes.
• Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas.
• Ability to make creative/artistic/aesthetic judgment calls.
• Prior experience in supervising or training, an asset
• Proficient with Maya and Zbrush
• Good knowledge of Unreal Engine or comparable game engines an asset
• Mastery of poly and sub-D modeling in Maya, Modo, or other comparable high-end software
• Understand the needs of facial rigging, including creation of facial blendshape sets and expressions
• Understand the needs of surfacing, including ability to create UV sets
• Strong aesthetic sense: demonstrates ability to make creative and aesthetic judgment calls
