Duties

:
In addition to working in an office environment, the incumbent must conduct investigations, inspections, audits, site surveys and health and safety compliance monitoring activities on construction projects and maintenance work sites where there is a requirement to occasionally climb ladders, scaffolding, visit roofs and boiler rooms with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, inclement weather, etc. as well as travelling on rough work sites where undulating/uneven terrain exists and being exposed to high risk hazards.

The work requires continual periods of standing, walking and climbing while conducting inspections. Entering hazardous locations and confined spaces when inspecting work with a view of health and safety compliance of staff, contractors and visitors. The work may also involve lifting, carrying and/or maneuvering light/medium weight and heavy objects or instruments that weigh less than 10 kg.

The employee will be required to wear protective clothing which may increase body heat load, such as hardhat, coveralls, safety boots, glasses, gloves, respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus, life jacket, etc.

Intent of the process

Our intent is to staff positions within the National Capital Region, however, various locations may also be considered in anticipation of future needs.

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions at PSPC with various tenures (term indeterminate), language requirements (English essential, French essential, English French essential, bilingual imperative: BBB/BBB and CBC/CBC and/ security clearance requirements (reliability secret), which may vary according to the position being staffed.

*Partially qualified simply means that the candidates will be deemed qualified except for the linguistic and security profiles which will be evaluated at a later date should the candidate be considered for an appointment.

Successful completion of a post-secondary certification program in Occupational Health and Safety or a combination of education, training and/or experience related to construction or maintenance safety.


¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Significant* experience working in construction or maintenance safety in Ontario and Quebec.

Significant* experience applying, implementing and monitoring compliance to the Ontario and Quebec legislative requirements related to construction sites or maintenance activities.

Significant* experience providing advice to management, trades and workers regarding the interpretation and application of provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation including Acts, Codes, Regulations, Standards and industry codes of practice.

Significant* experience in the development and the delivery of presentations, health and safety training programs or information sessions.

Significant* experience planning, organizing and oversight of investigations into accident causations, hazard identification and assessment, and worksite inspections.

Significant* experience working on multi-disciplinary project teams and developing partnerships (for example: with organizations and regulatory agencies)

*Significant experience will be evaluated in regard to the amount, complexity, and diversity of the work handled, and the level of autonomy demonstrated.
