About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for an  Environmental Leader ,reporting to the Environmental Health and Safety Department Manager. In this role you will be responsible for supporting Environmental activities by the development and implementation of procedures and systems related to management of environmental risk and environmental compliance for Umicore Battery Materials. Ensuring conformance of policies and procedures with all corporate policies, guidelines. Supporting systems and programs that provide compliance to local (Ontario/Canadian) legal and internal Umicore health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

D evelop systems and procedures across all environmental media (air, water, waste) for UBM. Ensure compliance with air and water environmental compliance approvals (permits) as well as Ontario and Canadian environmental regulations. Review and recommend improvements to existing environmental strategies. Support Environmental incidents, develop corrective or preventive plans and verify the effectiveness to avoid repeated cases. Coordinate with environmental vendors as required (Hazardous Waste disposal, stack measurement according to local requirements, Support obtaining activities related to achieving and maintaining ISO certification. Participate with regular Environmental audits to monitor local requirements, environmental incidents or conditions. Generate Environment reports and maintain permits after facility has been built and production has started.

Who we are looking for

Degree in Chemical, Chemistry or Environmental Engineering or Diploma in Technology or Environmental Technology or similar education Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Environmental role, of which at least 3 in manufacturing environment. Experience working in chemical manufacturing facilities is a strong asset. Knowledge and application of local (Ontario and Canadian) environmental regulations and requirements. Knowledge and experience with environmental control equipment such as scrubber, filters, and reverse osmosis is an asset. Experience generating compliance reports, manipulating data and record keeping. Experience translating emission rates to impact to compliance requirements. Good understanding/knowledge of chemical and metallurgical processes and associated risks. Knowledge of the process and risk-based approach. Knowledge or experience of the requirements of ISO and ISO is a plus. Proficient with PC tools as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, (Power BI and Share point on line are an asset)
