Job Overview

Reporting to the Construction Manager, as the Construction Handyperson, you will oversee on-site construction activities and assist in ensuring construction follows established design and quality. You also enforce compliance with health and safety regulations. 

This is a 6 month term position.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Working in a supporting role with the Site Superintendent overseeing the construction process for single family homes, duplexes and townhomes;Completing a wide variety of hands on construction tasks and assisting in monitoring home production, quality control, and site issues.Completing residential construction work such as: carpentry, drywall, paint, cleaning and site maintenance, and deficiency repairs.Promoting a safe work environment and ensuring all employees and trades work in a safe manner and follow Qualico’s Safety program and relevant safety legislation.Monitoring work to ensure it meets Qualico’s standards and all building and safety code requirements.

Essential Requirements

High School diploma, or equivalent.Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.Understanding of construction processes and procedures.Valid driver’s licence and vehicle (truck preferred and a vehicle allowance provided).Own trade tools and equipment.Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.Comfortable with smart phone technology including email, calendar scheduling, and basic app usage (company-issued cell phone is provided).Comfortable using office equipment, Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel), and construction management software (BuildPro, NewStar etc.).

Preferred Requirements

Recent experience in residential construction or the trades is preferred.Handyperson experience an asset.

Work Conditions

You primarily work full time on-site during regular business hours. Work will have exposure to noise from equipment/machinery and occupational hazards as well as dealing with inclement weather and dust. Travel to the regional office or other site locations is required. Overtime may occasionally be required.
