Position Summary

Creative Technologies & Design, in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at University of Regina invites highly qualified applicants for a three-year term Lab Instructor position in Sound Design (Audio Production). This is a Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) with a focus on teaching for a three-year term to commence September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible.We seek an imaginative and innovative candidate who will provide creative educational leadership to enhance and expand the existing Creative Technologies and Design curriculum through the integration of sound design, with a focus on audio engineering and related areas.Joining an interdisciplinary team at the broad intersections of Creative Technologies, Design, Fine Arts, Media, Computer Science, and Engineering, the successful candidate will be an exceptional scholar, and/or artist-researcher, able to build upon the well-established strengths of the Creative Technologies area as we grow the new Design program.Teaching will include studio, lab-based, and lecture formats, as well as online and mixed modalities at the undergraduate level in Design and Creative Technologies. Previous studio/lab-based teaching experience in design, creative technologies, or a related area, is an asset.The successful candidate will contribute to the building of our new program in Design. They will be expected to support the Program Chair of Creative Technologies & Design with the ongoing development of the new Design Program, helping to develop new Sound Design courses, revise CTCH audio-oriented courses, and build resources for excellence in teaching and research/practice in Creative Technologies & Design. Service to the area, as well as to Faculty and university wide committees, is also expected.We acknowledge that within higher education in Canada, traditional or conventional academic and artistic pathways can reinforce biases in the filling of faculty positions. The successful candidate will also contribute to the University’s ongoing thematic research focus on our ‘Digital Future.’

Position Requirements Expertise in Sound Design (Audio Production) is required. Experience in the field of sound design, including in audio production working with a variety of musical styles as well as those emerging from contemporary global, Black, and Indigenous musical expression is an asset.The successful candidate will hold an MA, MMus, MFA degree focusing on Sound Design, Audio Production, or a related field. The committee will also consider applicants who have a BFA, BMus, BA, along with Industry experience in the area of sound design and audio production.

Previous studio/lab-based teaching experience in Sound Design or Creative Technologies, or a related area, is required. Additional professional/industry experience in design and/or the creative industries is desirable.

The successful candidate should demonstrate significant creative output at the professional level with the ability to connect theory to practice. Experience working in the creative industries is an asset.
