We are offering an opportunity for an Accountant to join our team in Markham, Ontario. In this role, you will be processing payroll, managing transactions related to the employee life cycle, preparing and maintaining payroll documentation, and handling general accounting duties. This role offers a short term contract employment opportunity.

Responsibilities:
• Accurately process payroll for hourly employees within stipulated deadlines
• Oversee all transactions pertaining to the employee lifecycle, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Regularly review employee timecards, identify inconsistencies, and liaise with management to resolve issues
• Undertake the preparation and maintenance of payroll documentation and records
• Prepare bi-annual employee evaluations and pay increment schedules
• Manage the activation and monthly payment of employee benefits
• Compile sales data and prepare weekly sales reports
• Conduct weekly or monthly reconciliation of all company bank accounts
• Prepare inventory count sheets and rectify inventory discrepancies through journal entries every 4 months
• Reconcile various General Ledger accounts on a monthly basis
• Prepare monthly HST accounts for two companies
• Allocate prepaid accounts every 4 months
• Prepare depreciation/amortization journal entries every 4 months
• Accrue Accounts Payable invoices every 4 months
• Generate daily reports from third-party websites
• Prepare various weekly reports for the two companies
• Assist with miscellaneous tasks and year-end activities as directed by the controller.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting role.
• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of various accounting functions.
• Experience with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR).
• Proven ability in auditing and balance sheet account preparation.
• Familiarity with Sage 300 software is advantageous.
• Skills in account reconciliation are required.
• Experience with general ledger maintenance and management.
• Knowledge of Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) procedures.
• Ability to prepare and manage journal entries.
• Experience in journal entry preparation is essential.
