This job posting is for a Feeder/Catcher role. This is an entry-level position and we continuously encourage our employees to advance their careers through on-the-job training and job progression through our strong promotion from within. This position is ideal for experienced General Labourers who have the potential and mechanical aptitude/interest to become machine operators.

 

The person who occupies this position is responsible for assuming all duties performed by feeder (feed flat cartons into gluing machines), catcher (remove product from press and pack into cases). This person rotates between these positions throughout the working shift.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform manual labour duties in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while working under tight production deadlines.
  • Feeder has the responsibility that the glue machinery is continually being fed with proper carton.
  • Feeder takes stacks of cartons from loaded pallet and places them into feeder of the gluer machine/press.
  • Responsible that appropriate carton is being fed to feed only quality cartons.
  • Feeder is to observe for machine malfunctions and notify Adjuster of any machine stops or quality issues.
  • Catcher removes the finished folded cartons from the press and packs into cases.
  • Catcher responsible that only quality products are packed and performs quality checks on the cartons according to SOP’s.
  • Catcher applies correct case labels to corrugated cases.
  • Feeder and Catcher responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of area (remove stray cartons, sweep up, etc.). Performed during make-ready.
  • Perform some basic preventative care and troubleshooting of machinery/equipment.
  • Safely perform all tasks on and around the machinery/equipment.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participates in ongoing training.
  • Not limited to and including other duties as assigned. 

 

Requirements and Experience:

  • Prior exposure to manufacturing or machine operations preferred.
  • On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand/power tools preferred.
  • Strong dexterity, hand-eye coordination required.
  • Ability to maintain the production pace – work around very high-speed machinery.
  • English language knowledge ability – speaking, listening, reading and writing.
  • Basic computer skills – reading computer screen.
  • Basic math skills – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time with frequent twisting.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Routine lifting and occasional heavy lifting.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance record.
  • Available to work any shift schedule.
  • Must be both familiar and able to adhere to company safety policies and government legislation (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act).
