Our client is a well-established law firm based in Kamloops and has an opportunity for a junior Family Law Lawyer with at least 2 years of experience to work in our busy family law department. In addition to offering a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package for you and your family, our client provides a mentoring program for new lawyers and excellent support staff.

Compensation: Up to 100,000 - The starting salary for this position is determined through experience and internal equity. Base salary may be up to a maximum of $100,000, which is obtainable through annual performance increases; however, we will also consider an additional bonus structure for appropriate candidates.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining currency with case law, statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Providing timely, comprehensive, and strategic legal advice and representation to clients.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients and other professionals.
  • Effectively managing a high volume of family law matters.
  • Reviewing and preparing materials including pleadings, affidavits, briefs, fact, and organizing disclosure.
  • Docketing time, as appropriate.

Education and Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in a similar capacity
  • must have a solid working knowledge of the Divorce Act, the Family Law Act and other applicable statutes as well as applicable court rules and procedures such as the Supreme Court Family Rules and the Provincial Court Family Rules;
  • will have excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, superior organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to handle a high volume of work with tight deadlines and exceptional attention to detail;
  • is comfortable with and driven by solving complicated problems while demonstrating creativity, thoughtfulness, diligence and remaining calm under pressure;
  • is self-motivated and works well both independently and as part of a team; and
  • will embrace the opportunity to build strong relationships and to work towards developing this area of practice for the firm and maintaining a practice of their own.
