The Clinical Educators provide leadership, clinical coaching/mentoring, role modelling and educational activities to enhance knowledge transfer/uptake and staff development at both a corporate and a department specific level. The Clinical Educator works with the Clinical Leadership Team (CLT), Collaborative Practice, other Clinical Educators, Human Resources and other appropriate disciplines to develop, implement and evaluate corporate and departmental specific clinical education plans. Matrix reporting will exist with primary contact to Manager of Collaborative Practice and secondary to Manager of ICU and Manager of Cath Lab.

DUTIES:

1) Participates and collaborates with the Inter-professional health care team, specifically Collaborative Practice Council, to ensure the provision of patient care is consistent and collaborative across sectors of SAH, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary care models.

2) Compliant with legislation, and organizational and departmental policies, standards, and procedures.

3) Maintain current knowledge of Best Practices for the delivery of Critical Care and Cath Lab services, implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.

4) Participates in ongoing quality improvement for patient safety and satisfaction, as well as legislative and accreditation standards.

5) Ensures teaching, resourcing and coaching specific to the assessed learning needs of the inter-professional team within SAH.

6) Plan, implement and evaluate clinical orientation for new hires.

7) Provides assistance with mentorship planning for new orientating staff, in collaboration with the assigned Unit Nurse.

8) Attends and actively participates in all unit huddles and staff meetings for all areas of matrix reporting as required.

9) Support staff in achieving continuing education including higher learning and specialty certifications.

10) Utilize a variety of teaching/learning/communication strategies to meet the education needs of the staff.

11) Participate in development of health teaching materials for delivery strategies to patients and families.

12) Maintain education records as required by hospital policy and standards.

13) Innovative with transforming current practices to digital workflow.

14) Cover and support the education needs of other areas as needed.

15) Participate on committees as assigned.

16) Collaborate with leaders on results of randomized audits to assist in analyzing the needs of the department from an educational perspective to help ensure College of Nurses of Ontario standards are met.

17) Other duties and clinical work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario Demonstrated competency (within the last year) providing Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy Current ACLS and PALS

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in ICU Minimum of 3 years experience as a member of the Critical Care Response Team

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY:

Demonstrated understanding of treatment modalities related to the intensive care unit as well as cardiac cath lab. Demonstration of critical thinking and problem solving skills. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to work well with others Knowledge of patient care requirements and specialized equipment as appropriate to the clinical area. Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point and Outlook. Proficiency with Meditech Expanse clinical modules Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills in internal and external environment. Knowledge of adult learning principles and techniques, and experience in providing formal education to groups and individuals. Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation. Demonstrated Behavior consistent with Hospital Mission, Vision, Values and Standards of Performance. Comprehensive understanding of and ability to critically analyze roles, dimensions, and contexts of professional practice.
