 We are looking for a motivated Sr. Engineering - Product Design and Electro-Optical Systems to join our team

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the successful exploitation and development of new technologies, methods, products and electro-optical systems, in order to create, enhance and/or support the KELK product portfolio.

Technical Lead on New Product Development projects (as assigned), generally responsible for all technical product aspects during the product development project. Create concepts for new and innovative sensors, undertaking the theoretical analysis and experimentation necessary to establish their technical feasibility, their performance potential, and their configuration. Undertake theoretical analysis and experimentation as required to establish the performance potential and best practical configuration for project work. Provide leadership and technical guidance to all levels of personnel, participating in design reviews as a subject matter expert Provide technical leadership and assistance to others within KELK for both new and established products. Assess new applications or markets relative to current KELK products. Provide assistance with technical content of new project proposals, when assigned. Coach, mentor and train engineering staff in support of optimizing the operation and application of new and existing products. Provide applications support in diagnosing and recommending solutions to field application issues and/or field environmental issues for newly launched products. Provide equipment performance/application support for Application Engineering, when assigned. Understand current and potential applications for opto-electronic sensors in KELKs metal industry markets (primarily steel rolling and mining) and related markets. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all products, tools, processes, technical approaches, and modeling techniques in all topics related to, Machine Vision, Photonics, Signal Processing, and related disciplines. Maintain knowledge of the market changing technical requirements, identifying needs and contributing ideas for improvements to existing products and for new product. Support the VP of Engineering and Manager, R & D Instrumentation and Systems in maintaining an accurate Technology Roadmap that is used as a framework for new product developments and legacy product upgrades. Undertake project management activities, create project plans, assign resources, monitor progress, and prepare project reports and documents. Undertake other duties, appropriate to this position, as requested.

Requirements

Masters and/or Ph.D. in Electrical or Electro-Optical Engineering from an accredited university, required 10 years of experience in the photonics industry, strongly desired. Applications and or design experience with non-contact width, length measurement sensors, presence detectors, thickness, instrumentation, and automation & controls in the steel rolling mills, highly desired. Electro-Optical knowledge and design experience required, such as experience with digital camera components, optics and (CCD) sensors (line and/or array) AND experience with Machine Vision systems, devices, algorithms, applications, etc. Well-developed knowledge of the physics of lasers, laser reflection, and speckle pattern behavior, optical detectors for laser reflection and associated mathematics and signal processing. Working knowledge and experience with high-speed digital and analog designs Knowledge of multi-core processors, multi-threading and RTOS, such as QNX, desired. Experience with embedded software development using C, Java, Python, desired. Knowledge of signal processing, algorithm development required, and Machine Learning, desired. Experience creating and reviewing assembly drawings, schematics, BOM/parts lists and ECR/ECO/ECNs. Experience creating and reviewing Product Definition, Product Requirements and/or Specifications. Experience creating and reviewing Product Verification and Validation Test Plans. Experience working on proof of concepts for feasibility studies and or field evaluations. Experience developing system designs, hardware and/or software architectures. Experience with designing for EMC compliance, and regulatory requirements such as CE, RoHS, desired.

Technical Skills:

Experience with MatLAB and Simulink, and/or SciLab. Experience with HDL synthesis and analysis tools, specifically, Xilinx ISE and Vivado. Experience using 2D CAD applications, such as AutoCAD or Draftsight (or other), desired. Experience with electronics design tools for schematic capture circuit simulation/analysis, PCB design and simulation, such as Mentor Graphics PADS Logic, PADS Layout, LT Spice, and Hyperlinx. Experienced using MS Office products and applications, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Experience publishing technical and/or research papers/articles in academic or industry publications, desired. Experience presenting at technical or academic conferences and tradeshows to technical audiences, required. Experience fabricating prototype parts, assembling prototypes, test fixtures and jigs, desired. P.Eng. or similar designation, required.
