Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager or designate, supervised by the Clinical Supervisor for Red Deer Community Addiction and Mental Health (AMH) Justice services, in the context of a multidisciplinary team, this Addictions Counsellor III position requires a strong working knowledge of the Provincial Family Violence Treatment Program (PVFTP). Using a coordinated community response, the PFVTP provides comprehensive evidence-informed assessment and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) treatment for mandated and where possible, voluntary clients. Services are intended to reduce the risk of IPV and increase partner, family and community safety. Strong collaboration is required with law enforcement, probation, children’s services, victim advocates, addiction and mental health professionals and other service agencies unique to Red Deer and surrounding communities. The PFVTP adheres to standard operating requirements that promote consistency and align with AHS policy and procedures. Your contributions to on-going program development, implementation, and evaluation in keeping with current research and demonstrated successful outcomes will be invaluable to the continued success of the PFVTP, Justice and Mental Health Initiatives. This role provides the unique benefit of working within a multi-disciplinary team that is highly experienced in Justice and Mental Health Initiatives. Services are constantly evolving, which will allow for greater exposure to a myriad of opportunities. The position requires competencies in intensive case management, screening and assessment using standardized tools such as the SARA-V3 and treatment interventions that apply best practices aligned with advanced treatment modalities specific to Addictions. This position may support other duties as assigned.

Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Training or education specific to the addiction and mental health needs of clients experiencing conflict with the law, including conducting screening, assessment and treatment. Strong knowledge of the Criminal Justice system. Specialized expertise around counselling and therapy for those with concurrent disorders. Knowledge of community resources. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently.
