Equipment Operator

Objective

As a member of the Smelter Bay Aggregates (Lafarge) team, the Loader Operator’s primary focus will be production activities. The daily tasks will include operation of front end loader digging from natural bank and feeding screening equipment, loading trucks, operating generators, screen plants, conveyors, and labor intensive cleanup. The position will also require the loading of lake freighters which will include extended hours and weekends.

Responsibilities

Safety:

Must adhere to all local, provincial, OSHA and environmental regulations as outlined in the Employee Safe Work Guidelines booklet, and any/all rules or information provided by the company.

Stockpiling:

Stockpile material and prevent cross contamination.

Cleanup:

Perform cleanup related tasks both pit and at dock site with equipment, brooms, and shovels.

Shipping:

Load highway trucks with the correct amount and type of material as per the driver or weighmaster. Run the shiploader control tower for vessel loading.

Production:

Operation of front end loaders, generators, screens and portable conveyors.

Equipment:

sized wheel loaders, telehandlers and dozers. Ensure assigned equipment is operated and maintained to original equipment manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.

Maintenance:

Provide general maintenance duties on mobile equipment, mining process equipment and mobile conveyor systems.

Other:

Perform other duties as assigned to assist in the efficient operation of the site. This position is shift work (Approximately 6:00 am to 4:00 pm & 4:00 pm to 2:00 am) Monday through Friday with flexibility based on occasional extended hours and weekends as required for vessel loading scheduling.

Qualification Profile

Education & Work Experience:

Canadian secondary school diploma or equivalent Heavy equipment operation experience an asset

Knowledge & Skills:

Specific mobile equipment training including wheel loader training is an asset Mechanical aptitude Time and self-management skills as part of a team or independently Physically fit to encompass labour requirements of role.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, walking for extended period of time Ability to operate a motor vehicle May require considerable physical activity, must be capable of heavy lifting, bending and twisting Climbing stockpiles, stairs and inclines on conveyors Working at elevated heights Tolerating noise, temperature and environmental variations
