DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Clinic Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) are members of a multi-disciplinary team who provide primary healthcare to students, staff members and clients of the Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC).
The primary responsibility of the RPN involves organizing and providing nursing assistance to physicians in the medical setting. Additionally, the RPN autonomously delivers nursing care and medical interventions to clients with stable or less complex conditions and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the client receives comprehensive care.
Typical duties may include triage, vital signs monitoring, patient assessment (physical and/or mental health), assistance in various medical procedures, diagnostic testing and specimen collection, medication administration, patient education, coordination of care, clinic stock and equipment inspections, documentation, infection control and emergency response.
The incumbent is expected to perform duties in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations including, but not limited to, wearing/using protective equipment, devices, and/or clothing. The employee is expected to report to their supervisor any safety concerns, unsafe conditions or acts and any contraventions of the Act or regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, any defects in, or the absence of, protective devices or equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:- A minimum of a 2-year diploma from a recognized School of Nursing
- Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Current CPR-HCP, Basic Cardiac Life Support certification or equivalent
- Mental Health Training First Aid, Assist or equivalent
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience in delivering nursing care across all age groups and addressing a wide range of healthcare concerns, including mental health challenges.
- Proficient in implementing health promotion strategies such as immunizations, managing communicable diseases, promoting sexual health, and advocating for harm reduction practices.
