The Clinical Ethics Service, within the Health Professions Portfolio, plays an essential role in supporting the practice of ethical health care in Alberta Health Services (AHS) and provides mentoring, coaching and inspiration to others to build a positive moral climate throughout the organization. This exciting and dynamic team aims to be at the forefront of bioethics nationally and internationally through continuous quality improvement, capacity-building, and innovation. As a Clinical Ethicist with the AHS Clinical Ethics Service, you will provide support in addressing, analyzing and resolving complex ethical issues arising in the planning and delivery of health care. You will develop collaborative relationships with team members, staff, physicians and external stakeholders in enhancing the practice of ethical healthcare within AHS. You will be a valued member of a cohesive team with diverse education, experience and expertise.

Description:

The Clinical Ethicist will provide support to patients, families, care providers, managers and executives in the Edmonton Zone with a focus on continuing care, home care, hospice and public health, corrections and primary care. The Clinical Ethicist will also work closely with the Executive Director, Clinical Ethics Services and the AHS Clinical Ethicists in identifying and implementing initiatives and services that enhance the ethical planning and delivery of healthcare across the province. The Clinical Ethicist is responsible to: Conduct and facilitate consultations to help address ethical issues, moral conflict and distress arising in patient care. Plan, coordinate and deliver ethics education and training to clinicians, support staff, administrators, patients, and families. Assist in the review and development of guidelines and organizational practices that have significant ethical implications. Provide support for Alberta Health Services (AHS) and external initiatives that have significant ethical implications through participation on working groups and task groups. The Clinical Ethicist will continually contribute to the promotion, awareness, and ongoing development of a quality, high-performing and responsive Clinical Ethics Service. The successful candidate will support the development of, and work collaboratively with, ethics communities of practice and other resources within AHS to continually build organizational ethics capacity.

Self-awareness and recognition of personal and intellectual biases. Ability to manage and prioritize complex and diverse workloads. Skill and knowledge in techniques of mediation, facilitation, or conflict resolution.Outstanding verbal communication and presenting skills. Exceptional written communication skills.
