CNC Lathe Setup Operator-Day shift

MAJOR DUTIES:
- Setup and operate CNC Lathe machines.
- Setup the machine by using proper tools, and the most efficient technique.
- Align vises, fixtures with indicator to be parallel or square to a reference surface ie: table, fixture, vise etc.
- Indicate position of the fixture and parts.
- Set Lathe to correct position by using the right numeric code.
- Make dry run to check program for errors.
- Be able to change and modify a program.
- Change tool length and diameter offsets, fixture and pallet offsets.
- Be able to modify and grind cutting tools (end mills, drill, boring bars, form tools) if necessary, and use proper feed and speed for maximum efficiency.
- Check the first part and make sure that all the dimensions are within tolerance.
- Keep production running by deburring and preparing parts for loading into vise or fixture.
- Use time while machine runs as efficient as possible, for checking parts, cleaning up tools and tool holders from previous setup.
- If there are short running times, keep production going. by cleaning parts to load them again.
- Prepare tools and fixtures for the next job, get new tools, use regrind tools from the tool crib.
- Plan ahead when special tools are needed.
- Put tools into holders, clean holders, make sure tools are in good cutting condition.
- Check for damaged tool holders and tools (replace if necessary).
- Be able to use all the available measuring tools (like micrometer, dial gauges, deep micrometer, vernier, measuring block, height gauges).
- Be able to make layouts.
- Operate machine with proper guarding in place, report any damaged guarding, tool holders, tools etc.
- When big parts have to be changed ask for help if necessary.
- After setup is completed make sure guard for the tool drum will be put back in place.
- Check oil levels of machine and keep it in good condition.
- Protect self and others by following the company Health and Safety Policy and practicing safe work habits, industrial hygiene and good housekeeping around benches and machines.
