The City of Penticton's Public Works Department is in search of a highly skilled and energetic individual for the full-time permanent position of Works Maintenance III (E.O.II). The Public Works department keeps our community safe by managing the roads in our community, the parks and cemetery, as well as collecting our garbage and recycling and providing storm-water drainage to help prevent flooding. To help support these services, as well as those delivered by other departments, the Public Works department also manages the City's fleet of vehicles.
The Works Maintenance III (E.O.II) position reports to the Roads and Drainage Supervisor. The Works Maintenance III (E.O.II) position provides skilled labor assistance as required to all work crews including the operation of various light equipment and small hand tools as assigned. These positions may also be focused on restorative work to remediate City properties including but not limited to encampments and waste clean-ups (additional training will be provided).
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Skilled Public Works duties including, assisting all work crews, administering the street crack and crevice weed control program, sidewalk inspection program, water service inspection program, Uni-directional water main flushing program, etc.
- Operates equipment including but not limited to: single axle dump truck with attachments, pickup truck, aerial bucket truck, mobile crane truck, portable generator, cut saw, jackhammer, chainsaw, weed-eater, backpack blower, tampers, plate compactor, compressor, and other various small hand tools.
- Performs snow removal duties, and other various Public Works duties.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of Secondary School or equivalent.
- Valid B.C. Driver's Licence Minimum of Class 5 with Air Brake Endorsement (Class 3 preferred).
- Valid Traffic Control Person Certification.
- Valid Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Applicator Certificates.
- Valid Forklift Certification considered an asset.
- Any other related workplace certificates: WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, Fall Arrest are preferred.
This position has the following schedule:
Thursday to Monday
- Spring (May 1st to Sept 29th) 5:00 am to 1:30 pm
- Winter (Oct 1st to Apr 30th) 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
