Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful completion and graduation from an accredited Health Care Aide/ Nursing Attendant Program required. Nursing students must enroll on the HCA Directory in order to be employed as a HCA in Alberta. Part of the enrolment process includes the student submitting a copy of their (unofficial) transcript. The HCA Directory is waiving the enrolment fee for these nursing student applicants. Nursing students eligible for employment as an HCA in Alberta must meet the following criteria: Be a Practical Nursing (PN) student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed one year of the program; or Be a Baccalaureate Nursing (BN or BScN) student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed two full years of the program;or Be a Psychiatric Nursing student currently enrolled in an Alberta program who has completed two full years of the program; and the nursing student has completed a continuing care or medical unit clinical placement.The nursing student has some knowledge and experience with medication assistance. Once you have your certificate from the directory, create an ePeople profile for AHS and upload your directory information. The HCA requires the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 50lbs.
