The Opportunity

The Engineering department has an exciting opportunity for a Casual Engineering Technologist to join our Development Engineering team.

Under the direction of the Engineering Development Supervisor, the Engineering Technologist will support the Development Engineering group with on-going and new development of urban infrastructure. Required to work with contractors, and consultants in the areas of third-party utility installations and On-Street Construction Permits and ensure that the infrastructure being installed adheres to the Municipal Engineering Standards, City Bylaws, Policies, Procedures, and infrastructure growth plans. Respond to verbal and written inquiries from contractors, consultants, other government agencies and the public.

The role requires excellent time management and organization skills, combined with well-developed interpersonal and communications skills. This position will draw on your ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders as well as handle stress when dealing with irate or hostile individuals, short-time lines, and high complaint volumes. The individual we seek has knowledge of applicable by-laws, municipal standards, policies, bylaws, the MGA, development processes, construction processes and safety legislation. Knowledge and understanding of infrastructure installations at grade and below. The role is well suited for someone who is confident and able to work independently on many tasks.

Qualifications

•A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or Civil Engineering Diploma, or related Technology program
•At least 2 years of experience in civil design and land development project management or a related field.
•Professional Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.), Professional Engineering Technologist (P. Tech), Technologist-In-Training (T.I.T) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.)
•Strong computer skills and proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite, internet applications, Adobe Pro, ArcGIS, AutoCAD and POSSE
Valid Class 5 Drivers License and a personal vehicle for work use is required including a clear drivers abstract showing fewer than 5 demerits.

Hours of Work

This is a casual position that will work approximately 36 hours per week. The incumbent will need to occasionally work outside normal office hours during construction season.

Compensation

Starting at $38.66 per Hour based on qualifications and experience. This position does not include benefits.

Term

Six-month duration with possibility of extension.

Conditions of Employment

The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check. Valid Class 5 Drivers License and a personal vehicle for work use is required including a clear drivers abstract showing fewer than 5 demerits. The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
