Apply geoscience principles to provide solutions for hydrogeological problems. Manage and undertake projects and technical studies related to groundwater in support of oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, water resources, brownfields, and others as appropriate. Participate in the analysis and design of project related infrastructure including instrumentation, water conveyance, water wells, disposal wells and other groundwater related infrastructure. Partner with extensive, long standing clients such as municipal governments, conservation authorities, academia, and private industry. Join a well-respected environmental consulting company.As an Intermediate Hydrogeologist you will join our Mississauga office as part of our Hydrogeology team. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities as follows:
Report to senior hydrogeologists, engineers, environmental scientists, and project managers, supporting them in proposal preparation, scope of work development, and client deliverables. Client and regulatory liaison, as appropriate. Under minimal supervision, perform hydrogeological investigations including collation and quality management of environmental and hydrogeological data, analysis of data, and report writing. Provide oversight and supervision of subcontractors and subconsultants including but not limited to drillers, geophysical contractors, pumping test contractors, surveyors, and waste disposal contractors. Perform field work on integrated hydrogeological and environmental programs to include supervision of borehole drilling, monitoring well installation, geologic and hydrogeologic logging, aquifer testing (slug tests, pumping tests, packer tests), groundwater sampling, and other field tasks as required. Complete rigorous and clear field documentation and participate in planning, organizing, and reporting related to field tasks. Acquire and maintain appropriate safety training to conduct hydrogeological and environmental work. Assist with the development of conceptual and numerical geological and hydrogeological models for municipal water supplies, source water protection, mining, water resource studies, dewatering assessments for Permit to Take Water studies, and brownfield projects. Support the development of client relationships either through project-based client interaction, assisting with maintaining and developing relationships with those clients or through supporting business development efforts of senior staff. Contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment and encouraging the contribution of ideas to continuously improve projects and processes. Work in a collaborative manner with multidisciplinary colleagues in Canada and internationally.What We Are Looking For
Graduate or undergraduate degree in hydrogeology, engineering geology, or geology with or licensing in Ontario. 5 to 10 years’ documented consulting and/or industry work experience (Ontario experience an asset) in hydrogeology. Solid understanding of physical and contaminant hydrogeology. Prior experience with the following:Design and coordination of hydrogeological field investigation and monitoring programs.Field work associated with hydrogeological projects, including municipal ground water supply investigations, construction dewatering, water resource studies, mine closure, contaminant investigations, and brownfield remediation;Groundwater and surface water sampling using a variety of methods.Experience undertaking field work including: oversight of a variety of drilling methods (hollow and solid stem auger, sonic, reverse circulation, downhole hammer, mud and air rotary, wireline coring), logging of overburden and bedrock, and preparation of borehole logs.Monitoring well and municipal supply well construction oversight, aquifer hydraulic testing slug tests, packer tests, and pumping tests).Interpretation of analytical results for soil, bedrock, surface water and groundwater samples with respect to Federal and Provincial guidelines and standards, and industry best practice.Geological and hydrogeological interpretation for the development of 3D geological models, and cross sections.Experience with standard hydrogeological software including but not limited to Leapfrog Works, AQTESOLV, Groundwater Vistas, FEFLOW, Surfer, gINT, OpenGround, Global Mapper/ArcGIS, QGIS, Python. The ability to design and execute field programs with knowledge of various drilling techniques, installation of monitoring, production, and disposal wells and soil and groundwater sampling procedures as well as instrumentation. Must be willing and can travel for short to medium term assignments (within Canada and internationally) with occasional overnight travel and flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required. Requirement to travel and participate in remote field work, and the ability to adapt to unpredictable and/or inclement field conditions and changing schedules. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills (English) Valid Canadian driver’s license. Proven report writing skills. Ability to display initiative and engage decision making skills. Enthusiasm for hydrogeology, demonstrating a desire and commitment to Continued Professional Development. Knowledgeable of Federal and Provincial/Territorial Environmental Acts and Regulations in Canada. Practical experience or course work in data manipulation using data management tools. Proven organizational, team building, technical, leadership skills. Solid technical writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to clients, regulators, and colleagues in a readily understood format.Why Choose Matrix
