The Opportunity The Infrastructure Department is comprised of five Branches, including three Design and Construction Branches, the Wastewater Operations Branch, and the Water Operations Branch. Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City’s environmental infrastructure and systems including water supply, treatment, and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; and the design and construction of the City's infrastructure including treatment plants, pump stations, roads, sewers, watermains, sidewalks, stormwater management ponds, water towers and reservoirs, etc.
 
The Water Distribution Operator Class II position is within the Water Distribution Services and Water Customer Services sections. Operators are responsible for the maintenance of the Water Distribution System from the treatment facilities to the property line within the City of Barrie. This position performs regular operational inspections and maintenance of distribution infrastructure and repairs distribution water mains and service breaks. Additionally, this position commissions new water distribution infrastructure for all sized watermain. Lastly, this position is responsible for new water meter installation and replacement, service flushes, internal service valve replacement, leak detection, high bill investigation, thawing of frozen services as well as assessing, responding to emergences throughout the day, maintenance of the AMI system and water quality concerns. Overall, this position plays an integral role in the timely completion of maintenance activities related to the water distribution system in order to maintain compliance with drinking water acts and regulations, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and branch, departmental, and/or corporate policies and procedures. Completion of Water Distribution Class II Certificate from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) 
Completion of Water Distribution and Supply Class II Certificate from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC)  Don’t meet the education credentials as outlined above but have years of directly related experience? Position Equivalency Code: C Experience  Three (3) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities Three (3) years of operating and maintenance experience in a Class II Water Distribution Subsystem and/or a Class II (or greater) Water Distribution and Supply Subsystem Knowledge/Skill/Ability  Working knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: O.Reg.170/03 Drinking Water Systems, O.Reg.169/03 Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards, MECP Watermain Disinfection Procedure, Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002 Working knowledge of the following principles and standards: City of Barrie Material Standards, City of Barrie SOP's and City of Barrie BSD standards. Intermediate skills including: Customer Service; Decision Making; Judgment; Leadership; Multitasking; Organizational; Problem Solving; Public Relations; Record-keeping; Teamwork; Time Management; Training; Troubleshooting; Verbal Communication; Written Communication Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software: GIS collector apps, Insite, WinFluid (bulk water filling station), Microsoft office suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and the Internet.
