Your Opportunity:

The Police and Crisis Team (PACT) is a partnership between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Lethbridge Police Service. The Mental Health Therapist (MHT) is a member of a multidisciplinary team and partnered with a law enforcement officer. Each MHT and law enforcement partner will operate out of Lethbridge Police Station. Each PACT unit will fall under the direct leadership of the AHS clinical supervisor and management structure. The MHT, in partnership with law enforcement, is responsible for providing specialized mental health assessment and consultation services in an outreach context. MHTs work in tandem with LPS officers to respond to situations related to mental health crises where the individual is committing person, property, and social disorder offenses, and requires police and crisis team support. The team will attend community crises that involve individuals presenting with public safety concerns, including those who may pose a danger to themselves and/or the public, those experiencing mental health and addiction issues and who may have a higher risk of being homeless due to the nature of their presenting issues. This position is clinical in nature.

Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs will be considered: Bachelor of Social Work including training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have psychosocial intervention authorization. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or, a Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Diploma or bachelor’s degree in nursing with: related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Authorization to do mental health psycho-social intervention is required.
