What you’ll do :

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO has overall strategic, fiscal, and operational responsibility for the Co-op, including stewardship of the leadership team. Using effective interpersonal competencies and managerial strategies, the CEO will work with the Board of Directors to oversee the governance of the Co-op and develop the strategy, goals, and objectives in alignment with the strategic plan. The primary responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to the following:

Strategy – Collaborating with the Board to develop a strategy aligned with the Co-op’s vision, mission, and values. Translating the strategy into the tactical direction, goals/objectives, and initiatives for the Co-op. Financial Stewardship – Leading the development of the Co-op’s annual operating and capital budgets and ensuring efficient operation and adherence to the budget. Operations – Overseeing the overall operation of the Co-op and ensuring the efficient utilization of resourcing and assets to achieve operational plans and business outcomes. Leadership – Providing leadership and maintaining a positive work environment that promotes the engagement and development of all team members to support the achievement of desired results and a positive customer experience. Relationships – Building and enhancing relationships with members, customers, team members, and stakeholders.

Who you are:

You have proven executive leadership experience within the retail sector with solid business acumen in retail operations, finance, marketing, human resources, and administration.

You are a proven senior leader (10+ years) with a demonstrated expertise gained in leading a high-performance culture in a complex environment. Such experiences should include managing a large team and multiple projects. You are passionate about and have a deep understanding of the co-op system and wish to continue delivering on its principles for years to come. You have experience working with and reporting to a Board of Directors. You have an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong understanding of the financial aspects of the business including risk management, profit, etc. You are an innovative leader that can identify areas of opportunity, develop and implement strategic plans to achieve organizational goals, and drive business growth. You are a lifelong learner and seek out opportunities to expand your knowledge and experience in all aspects of this business and industry as well as professional growth as a leader. You have a reputation for being honest and trustworthy, results-oriented, and strive to be the best in what you do. You believe in building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and you recognize the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives. You have experience in both rural and urban settings and understand the different markets. You have a relevant bachelor's degree (a combination of education and/or experience may be considered).

Where you’ll work:

New Horizon Co-op currently serves the communities of Grande Prairie, Valleyview, Fairview, Fox Creek, Falher, Hythe, Beaverlodge, La Glace, Rycroft, and Grande Cache.

Our main office is located in Grande Prairie, a vibrant and growing city in the heart of the Peace Region. Grande Prairie has a population of around 70,000 and acts as a regional hub serving people across Northern Alberta, Northern British Columbia, and more. Being the largest city north of Edmonton, this hidden gem has it all - stunning natural landscapes, an abundance of outdoor activities, and a lively arts and culture scene.
