The Engineering Specialist - Mechanical will be a key part of the Canem Major Pursuit Team and will use their engineering experience to support the Director of Major Pursuits in various activities including collaborating and driving the consultant team towards a competitive pursuit submission. The Engineering Specialist will have the ability to execute multiple tasks concurrently and will support other business units within Canem.

What You Will Be Working On

The Engineering Specialist – Mechanical is responsible for duties assigned by the supervisor, including:

Review and understand project technical requirements and applicable regulatory requirementsDevelop detailed design schedules that are coordinated with the overall project scheduleCollaboration with consultant and contractor teamsCoordinate with other parties and provide information in a timely manner to avoid delay with the design processRegular reporting to Director related to design schedule performance and quality of deliverablesWork with Business Development staff to construct and maintain relationships with clients, design consultants, and other stakeholdersPromote, and maintain a positive safety culture within the team, without compromise.Contribute to RFQ responsesProvide value engineering reviews for DBB and CM type projectsProvide technical/engineering support on construction projects to assist with code challenges

Execution:

Ensure that design policies and procedures are followedIdentify project and technical risksProduce schematic level analysis of all mechanical systemsWork with consultants to develop a lean compliant design for key Building Mechanical Systems including HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection as well as Building Automation / ControlsWork with suppliers to source cost effective solutionsSupport estimators in material and labor take-offsAttend design meetings during RFP and Design Development stagesContribute to the continuous improvement of Canem’s pursuit process maps and risk management toolsMonitor the compliance and contractual obligations and notify the team of any risksMonitor ongoing design efforts to ensure compliance and cost-effective design using your knowledge and experience in comparison of mechanical systems including value / life cycle cost analysisCoordinate with VDC team and contribute to the development of BIM Execution PlansAudit the design documents against the requirements, ensuring they are compliant and meet industry quality standardsProvide support to the Construction team as required and ensure the design documents meet the Construction Team’s requirements

What We Are Looking For

The Engineering Specialist - Mechanical position requires a highly experienced, intermediate to senior level engineer of healthcare and institutional projects with proven success in executing design-build type projects. Canem promotes a flexible working arrangement that suits both Canem’s and the employees’ needs, which will be discussed further with the successful candidate. Travel to project and vendor sites will be required and should be expected for 10-15% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Progressive career growth in mechanical construction projects ranging from design to project leadProven ability to provide innovative solutions on design build projects that yield competitive advantagesP.Eng designation in at least one ProvinceRCMP ERS clearance or ability to obtain

Minimum Qualifications:

5 years experience in construction projects3 years experience working on design build projects.Current knowledge of Canadian building and municipal codes and regulationsExcellent knowledge of industry products, practices and standardsAbility to learn quickly, be flexible and adaptableStrong organizational abilities and demonstrated attention to detailStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong time management skills, specifically the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and re-prioritizeAble to work effectively both independently and in team settingsWorking knowledge of BIM tools including REVITGood understanding of OSHA, ANSI, ASHRAE and NFPA regulationsGood understanding of LEED guidelines and energy codes including ASHRAE and NECB
