Waterloo, Canada Wilfrid Laurier University Full time
Position Summary :

The Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series—spanning over twenty years and six games—has become known for its depiction of crime and violence. But GTA is a prime example of how games draw from and exert influence on pop culture texts such as film, music videos, fashion, hip-hop culture, and American car culture. During this course, students will take a critical look at the design and intertextuality of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, how the games have inspired discourse around race, gender, criminality, and deviance, and explore the impact the game has had on society. Students will not only gain a better understanding of this game franchise, but will be better prepared to take a critical look at other games and interactive media and what it means to participate in ‘play’.
