Based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Algoma has a proud history as a leading manufacturer of hot and cold rolled steel sheet and plate products. We are Canada’s only discrete plate producer and one of the lowest-cost producers of hot-rolled sheet steel in North America owing in part to our state-of-the-art Direct Strip Production Complex. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Must have minimum 2-year diploma in; Ironworker – Generalist (420B) and/or Ironworker – Structural and Ornamental (420A).

OR

Must have either a Pre-trades Diploma, Metal Fabricator Diploma, or Mechanical Diploma.

OR

Must have a current 4 position Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Ticket. Successful completion of an entrance aptitude test. Successful completion of a practical test. Must be willing to participate in an apprenticeship program registered with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in the Ironworker – Structural and Ornamental 420A trade. This includes following the roles and responsibilities outlined by the Ministry of Training. Must attend and successfully complete 3 levels of in-school training when and as designated by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities and approved by the Company. Team player with excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities. Self-starter and able to work effectively with minimal direction. Good analytical and problem solving/decision making abilities. Commitment to healthy and safe work practices and sustainable environmental practices. Must be able to work from heights.

Graduation will require successful completion of intensive academic block intakes at Sault College or other training facilities and comprehensive In-Field Training in various areas of Algoma Steel Inc
