Tecumseh, Canada Watson Clinic Full time

Watson Clinic is seeking a full-time, team-oriented and board-certified physicist to join our dynamic radiation oncology team in Watson Clinic Cancer & Research Center in Lakeland, FL. The current team includes two radiation oncologists, three dosimetrists, six radiation therapists and the chief physicist.

The successful candidate should have current ABR certification so as to be eligible for a Florida state license. He/she should have at least 2+ years working experience in a clinical environment, preferably a Varian setting.

Facility and equipment

Watson Clinic Cancer and Research Center is a busy practice that provides a full range of radiation therapy procedures, including but not limited SRS (cranial, spine), SBRT, GYN HDR and Non-invasive APBI AccuBoost. Equipment in use includes Varian Trilogy, Varian TrueBeam, PlanMed Clarity mammography for AccuBoost, GE CT scanner and a new Nucletron Flexitron after-loader.

For our GYN HDR procedures, we use Nucletron/Elekta multi-channel applicator and Geneva tandem and ovoid applicators. Our HDR TPS is Oncentra. Our center is mainly a Varian site for external beam treatment. Our Varian equipment includes two Varian machines as mentioned above with Aria as our R&V system, Eclipse TPS, Velocity as fusion and adaptive monitoring software.

Our physics QA devices are primarily Sun Nuclear devices, including DailyQA, MapCheck 2, ArcCheck and a Profiler. We use IBA Blue Phantom2 with myQA Accept for beam scan and we also have a small TG51 water tank. As for the radiation detectors, we have PTW Farmer chambers and other small-volume detectors mainly from PTW for small field dosimetry. You will get exposed to a lot of exciting radiation oncology and medical physics procedures.

Qualifications:

(1). At least master's degree in medical physics or related fields

(2). ABR board certified or equivalent and eligible for Florida medical physicist license

(3). Minimum 2+ years of clinical experience is radiation oncology settings required

(4). Strong interpersonal communication skill

(5). Working experience of Varian machines (TrueBeam, Trilogy) preferred

(6). Working experience of Varian Aria/Eclipse preferred

(7). Working knowledge of SRS/SBRT preferred

(8). Working experience of Elekta/Nucletron afterloaders and OnCentra TPS preferred

Job responsibilities

Please note that a lot of works listed as below take joint efforts from your physicist and even other colleagues. In our team, we value most the teamwork, collaboration, open discussion and self-motivation more than any particular skill.

(1). Generally speaking, participate the full-range on-site clinical medical physics support, including plan review and physics approval, weekly chart checks

(2). Ensure the compliance with regulatory requirement, radiation safety and best practice recommendation in radiation oncology. We are an ACR-accredited cancer center.

(3). Perform patient specific portal dosimetry QA for VMAT/IMAT and phantom QA for SRS/SBRT

(4). Perform Linac Machine QAs (monthly and annual) per TG142 and MPPG 8.a. If needed, perform reference dose calibration per TG 51

(5). Machine QAs for our CT simulator and PlanMed Clarity machine for AccuBoost HDR

(6). Oversee the maintenance and the repair of our treatment machines. Helped therapists fix the “minor” problems of machine to minimize the downtime.

(7). Perform and/or oversee the Quality Assurance (QA) programs for the treatment planning system (Eclipse & OnCentra) and therapy treatment units.

(8). Perform treatment planning of HDR plans with OnCentra and monitor the HDR treatments independently

(9). If needed, implement machine acceptance, commissioning and the development of new clinical procedures

(10). Support and assist physicians, dosimetrists, therapists and other colleagues for their clinical requests

(11). If needed, be qualified for independent works of special physics procedures including 3D/VMAT/SRS/SBRT
