About the role

The Network Engineer plays a crucial role in bolstering ALS's enterprise-wide area and local area networks. Serving as a subject matter expert, this role actively contributes to the network team, handling daily operations support, project responsibilities, and providing design and architectural expertise. Additionally, as a point of escalation for network-related issues, the Network Engineer is committed to mentoring junior team members, ensuring a robust and dynamic network environment for the enterprise. 

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, design, document, implement, and support WAN, LAN, data center, co-location and cloud networks; Work in collaboration with the network architect to test, document, and provide proof of concepts for emerging technologies; Troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade, and provide solutions to network hardware/software problems; Identify, communicate, and implement proactive changes that must be performed to prevent problems; Manage ALS networks to meet service levels, including capacity planning and upgrades; Establish and maintain performance/service levels to achieve individual and group goals; Provide direction to lower level staff to develop necessary skills to succeed and advance; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Special projects/assignments and other duties as required.

About you:

Desire and willingness to work in a collaborative, innovative, flexible, and team-oriented environment; Ability to work calmly and constructively under pressure and meet deadlines; the ability to manage and keep track of multiple tasks simultaneously; Ability to adjust to changing situations to meet emergencies, program changes or production requirements; Knowledge of the methods and techniques of obtaining network statistical information; Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate technology concepts to non-technology personnel.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience required; 5+ years of network engineering experience with in-depth exposure in designing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting complex networks within a large enterprise environment; Cisco and/or Azure Network Certifications are strongly preferred; Solid Understanding and hands-on experience with routing protocols (e.g., EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, and BGP) in a mixed environment; Experience in Access Control Lists, Firewalls, VPN technologies, Wi-Fi technologies, VOIP, QoS, Enterprise Wireless technologies, and other security technologies; Experience working with managed service provider; Experience in Network monitoring and management tools; Strong experience with SDWAN technologies preferably Cisco Meraki; Strong ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization; Knowledge and experience in creating and updating Network Visio Diagrams.

Physical Demands

This position will require the ability to travel within the Southern Ontario area.
