Wastewater Operator – Ecohesion

Description:

As a Wastewater Operator in Barbados you will work under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Wastewater Operator monitors, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and operates various wastewater treatment facilities and their processes.

    • Thrive in a high-stress and fast-paced environment and continuously deliver high-caliber output.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.

Education, Experience & Requirements

  • Associate degree or certification from a technical institute.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid Police Certificate of Character.
  • 2 written character references.

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are further defined in the Contract of Employment.

Working Conditions

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing. lifting, bending, or stooping.
  • Frequent repetitive hand motion and moving objects 25-50 pounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in drinking water, desalination, wastewater-reuse, and/or sewage environment.
  • Perform monitoring and operation functions using HMI interaction.
  • Perform handheld probe tests, including but not limited to pH, temperature, TSS, DO, Nitrate, Nitrite, Free Chlorine, Phosphates, and Ammonia.
  • Install, maintain and repair equipment and all its components.
  • Sample, collect and deliver water/wastewater samples for laboratory testing and analysis.
  • Assist in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and machinery, whether submerged or unsubmerged.
  • Record logs in a neat, orderly and timely manner, and where required, deliver said logs to the Employer in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and orderly records and personal journal entries.
  • Highlight to the Employer any potential issues with the system and troubleshoot equipment problems where required.
  • Perform routine equipment preventative maintenance (including but not limited to, changing oil, and grease equipment, checking air filters, looking for leaks, listening for noises, and detecting changes in odor emissions).
  • Ensure general site maintenance (keep plant area and equipment clean).
  • Perform painting as required.
  • Monitor electrical equipment, maintain electrical panels and record relevant readings.
  • Change out old conduits, conduit boxes and wiring as required.
  • Change out fuses, float switches, and electronic valves, and repair/replace nonfunctioning electrical equipment.
  • Perform weekday and weekend checks of the treatment plants as scheduled by the Employer.
  • Act as an on-call operator on weekends and public holidays as delegated by the schedule set by the Employer.
  • Respond to emergency callouts from the treatment plant automation system or other notification method.
  • Act as the main point of contact for automated emergency call-outs.
  • Enter tanks containing either treated or untreated wastewater or sewage for the purposes of monitoring, repairs or maintenance.
  • Perform membrane-filter cleans, both chemical and manual hand-cleaning.
  • Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations.
  • Wear ECOHESION uniform and personal protection equipment at all times on site.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as required by the Employer.
