Position Overview

Mitten Building Products is seeking a highly driven  Cost Analyst (Accounting Technician)  with a passion for working in manufacturing. Reporting to the Finance Manager of Canada, this position is responsible for providing high-quality reporting and data-driven analysis to both; the Siding Manufacturing operations and the Canada business unit, while ensuring generally accepted accounting practices and company policies are adhered to. The role will support strong business decisions by leadership, helping to drive the company’s achievement of its goals.

Job duties

Perform month-end close for the plant and other general entries and reconciliations. Generate Plant performance reports for the plant leadership team following month-end close. Analyzes, reports, and graphs trends on production data as appropriate. Post journal entries and maintain general ledgers and financial statements. Assist in analyzing plant efficiencies (scrap, down time, run rates, etc.). Maintain accurate costing system (weekly cost updates, vendor price updates, regular reviews). Responsible for creating/maintaining all manufactured SKUs and BOMs to ensure accurate Production Info/Costs. Calculates costs for materials, labour, and manufacturing overhead. Evaluate, cost, and advise on profitability of all special orders to the plant. Daily dashboard reporting on production & sales activity. Assists in the preparation of the manufacturing operating expense budgets and general support for the Canada BU Process and report quarterly gainshare results for the Plant. Maintains accounting controls for materials, work-in-progress and finished goods inventories. Review and report on material variances and assist with raw material planning. Assist with Finance monthly forecasting. Assist with internal/external audit needs. Support Year-end close activities (Audit, Inventory, and general support) Prepare Ad hoc reports for the Plant Manager and manufacturing team. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

University or College degree/diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline, required. Relevant Post-graduate studies or working towards a CPA designation would be an asset.

Experience

2+ years of relevant finance experience 6 months experience in a manufacturing environment. Prior experience working in a building products industry would be an asset.

Skills/Abilities

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. A team player who can effectively interact/communicate with various departments/ personalities and has the ability to work independently. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with accuracy and can manage time accordingly. Have the ability to be adaptable in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Advanced/Intermediate Microsoft Office skills particularly in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook Systems savvy, exposure to ERP systems, Sage 300, considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly. Experience in a SOX environment is an asset.
