Job Type: Part-Time Temporary

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Reporting to the Clinical Lead (AL), the Residential Care Aide performsroutine functions involved in the provision of holistic quality resident andtenant care.Duties are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and in a manner which respects the uniqueness, dignity, worth, need for self-respect and self-determination of the individual, all in ways which promote maximum personal and functional independence. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include but notlimited to;

Providesholistic personal care to residents/tenants, ensuring that theresidents’/tenants’ activities of daily living needs are met as per policy andprocedures. e.g.personal hygiene, oralcare, skin care, toileting, bathing, nail care, dressing, grooming andactivation. Providesresidents with nutritional assistance.e.g. meals, nourishment and tray service and assisting residents to eatas needed.Assisting residents to andfrom dining areas in accordance with meal service schedules.Report any appetite/fluid intake changes orconcerns immediately to the Nurse. Observesand reports any changes in resident’s/tenant’s functional and cognitivebehaviour to the Nurse. Transfersresidents in/out of bed, to/from wheelchair, toilet and chair using one or twoperson transfers or mechanical lifts as per the residents care plan. Assistswith the admission, transfer and discharge of residents. Encouragesand assists residents/tenants to participate in social, physical, spiritual andrecreational activities. Respondsto resident, tenant and building emergencies if necessary. Maintainsa clean, safe, homelike environment for residents/tenants and staff.Reports unsafe or faulty equipment immediately. Ensurescare equipment and supplies are used and stored in safe and efficientmanners. Underthe direction of the RN or LPN assists with nursing care such as non-steriledressings, enemas, suppositories, collection of specimens or skin care treatments. Ensuresresidents personal items are marked and handled and stored properly.Processing of soiled personal clothing as perpolicy and procedures.Removing/changingsoiled linens. Maybe responsible for some or all the tasks related to laundering duties such assort / wash / dry / fold / hang / return to storage or resident/tenant room bedlinens and labeling residents/tenants linens. Ensuresthat resident/tenant rights are maintained and respected, which includesconfidentiality. Answerscall bells promptly and responds appropriately to resident/tenant requests. Activelyparticipates in facility programs, meetings, committees and educationalinservices. Encouragesand adheres to a holistic philosophy of wellness, recognizing that eachindividual is capable of, to varying degrees, making decisions about his/herlife and is a partner in the decision-making. Required to work  Performsother related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduatefrom a recognized Care Aide Program. Previousexperience in a long term care facility preferred. An active registration with the BC Care Aide &Community Health Worker Registry. All successful applicants mustpass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincialguidelines.

SKILLSAND ABILITIES:

Abilityto communicate effectively verbally and in writing in the English language. Goodinterpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with the variousindividuals involved in providing holistic care in a flexible resident focusedenvironment. Mustbe in good health and free from communicable diseases, physically able toperform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand and walking as required toperform the duties of the position.
