This is a temporary replacement position for a bargaining unit employee. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Reporting to the Manager, Programs and Operations, the incumbent’s primary role is to assist the Community Integrated through Co-operative Education (CICE) students with their academic learning to maximize their potential in post secondary education. The incumbent advocates, intervenes and acts on behalf of the CICE student with faculty, other college students and with college-wide service departments. With standing instructions and in collaboration with faculty, the Learning Facilitator (LF) develops assessments of the CICE student’s aptitude and skill and modifies course outlines, tests and assignments. The LF provides accommodations for students using adaptive technologies as required and supports students with individual learning strategies and study skills based on modified course outlines. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Attending classes with the CICE student(s) to provide classroom support with note taking, lab support, group work facilitating, and advocating for their concerns
• Meeting weekly with the CICE student(s) to provide tutoring support for each scheduled class by preparing and supplementing class material
• Setting up and assisting the student with the use of adaptive technologies equipment when needed (in and out of class)
• Modifying prepared course materials in collaboration with the faculty (course outlines, tests / exams and assignments) to meet individual student needs, developing study strategies, reviewing questions or project outlines; invigilating tests and exams
• Promoting inclusion of CICE students in the classroom and in college social activities
• Referring students to access appropriate college resources (Financial Aid, Student Success, Bookstore, etc.)
• Assisting in conducting admission interviews, student orientation sessions 
• Using a variety of learning strategies, teaching and learning principles to support student’s academic success 
• Facilitating additional support sessions outside of the classroom (Learning Skills, Life Management, etc.) 
• Working collaboratively as part of the CICE Program Team
• Assisting with field placements as necessary in consultation with the Field Placement Officer and LF Lead.

Qualifications:
• Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to, Developmental Service Worker 
• Certification in CPR / First Aid is required
• A minimum of three years’ experience working with persons with significant learning challenges in an academic environment. This includes working with persons with disabilities, developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and brain injuries, etc.
• Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and adaptive technologies to assist students with their school work
• Proven time management and organizational skills to set priorities and handle multiple responsibilities with tight deadlines simultaneously
• Ability to make decisions and problem solve to determine and provide alternative options / solutions to the students
• Proven communication (written and verbal) and critical thinking skills to advocate for the CICE students concerns
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Disability-relevant or special education training / certificate would be considered an asset
