Heavy Civil Superintendent – Greater Toronto Area, Southern Ontario

 

As a Superintendent specializing in MTO (Ministry of Transportation Ontario) projects, you will oversee the successful execution of heavy civil infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, and safety standards set by the MTO. You will lead and manage field operations, supervise construction activities, and collaborate with project stakeholders to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·         Project Management: Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil infrastructure projects in compliance with MTO regulations and project requirements.

·         Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor field staff, including foremen, crew members, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.

·         Safety Compliance: Promote a culture of safety on the job site, enforcing safety policies, conducting regular safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with MTO safety regulations and industry standards.

·         Schedule and Budget Management: Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans, monitoring progress and making adjustments as necessary to ensure project milestones are met and costs are controlled.

·         Quality Assurance: Oversee quality control measures, conducting inspections and tests to verify compliance with project specifications and quality standards set by the MTO.

·         Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, consultants, engineers, and MTO representatives, providing regular updates on project progress, issues, and resolutions.

·         Problem Solving: Identify and address project issues and challenges in a proactive and timely manner, collaborating with project teams to develop and implement effective solutions.

·         Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, material logs, and other records required for MTO compliance and project accountability.

·         Change Management: Manage project changes, including scope changes, design modifications, and unforeseen circumstances, ensuring proper documentation and communication with all stakeholders.

·         Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and cost-saving measures, implementing best practices to optimize project performance and deliverables.

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

·         5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a focus on MTO projects.

·         Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex infrastructure projects on time and within budget.

·         Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve project goals.

·         In-depth knowledge of MTO regulations, specifications, and standards related to heavy civil construction.

·         Proficiency in project management software and tools, such as Primavera P6, Procore, and Microsoft Project.

·         Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
