The Opportunity
Vermilion Energy has an exciting opportunity within the global Information Technology & Information Systems (IT & IS) team for a Senior SAP Basis & ABAP Specialist. Based in Calgary, this role will report directly to the Manager, Business Systems, Data and Analytics and be an integral part of the IT & IS team. The Senior SAP Basis & ABAP Specialist is responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of the SAP S4 HANA environment within Vermilion. This role involves ensuring the smooth functioning of SAP systems, performing system installations and upgrades, monitoring system performance, and providing technical support to end-users. The role will also collaborate with the development team to support ABAP-related tasks, including debugging, coding, and enhancements. The successful candidate will join a team that values its people and provides work with purpose.
What you will do
SAP Basis Administration:
Install, configure, and maintain SAP systems and landscapes (development, testing, and production) to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
Perform system upgrades, patches, and installations following best practices and minimizing system downtime.
Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize system parameters for optimal performance.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to SAP applications, data, and interfaces.
Maintain system security by implementing user access controls, security patches, and authorization settings.
Provide technical and administration support related to Basis, ABAP and BTP
Support/perform SAP Basis Administration activities such as ID creation and transporting objects to different systems
Document SAP processes, procedures, and plans; including changes, upgrades, and new services
ABAP Development Support:
Develop, modify, and optimize ABAP programs to meet business requirements.
Collaborate with functional teams to understand and translate business needs into technical specifications.
Create and maintain custom reports, interfaces, enhancements, and forms using ABAP.
Collaborate with the vendors and stakeholders to provide technical support for ABAP programming, debugging, and performance tuning.
Assist in designing, coding, and testing ABAP programs and enhancements as needed.
Perform code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards, performance optimization, and best practices.
Develop and maintain technical documentation related to ABAP programs and system configurations.
System Monitoring and Maintenance:
Proactively monitor system health and performance, analyzing logs and alerts to identify potential issues.
Plan and execute system backups, disaster recovery tests, and system refreshes.
Monitor and manage SAP transport requests, ensuring proper promotion through different system landscapes.
Maintain and update system documentation, including installation guides, configuration procedures, and technical diagrams.
Collaboration and Training:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including functional analysts, business users, and IT colleagues, to understand and address their technical needs.
Provide training and support to end-users on SAP functionality, tools, and best practices.
Stay updated with the latest SAP technologies, trends, and industry best practices.
Develop, modify, and optimize ABAP programs to meet business requirements.
Collaborate with functional teams to understand and translate business needs into technical specifications.
Create and maintain custom reports, interfaces, enhancements, and forms using ABAP.
What you will bring
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
10-15 years of experience and 7-10 years of SAP experience
Proven experience as an SAP Basis Administrator, with knowledge of ABAP development.
Strong technical expertise in SAP system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in SAP administration tools, monitoring tools, and performance tuning.
Experience with SAP upgrades, patches, and system migrations.
Knowledge of SAP security concepts and authorization management.
Solid understanding of ABAP programming language and debugging techniques.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
SAP certifications in Basis, BTP and ABAP are a plus.
