The Faculty of Health at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for one 50.05% part time Non-regular Type 2 (NR2) faculty to teach in our Traditional Chinese Medicine Program. The appointment is for one year from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025. NR2 Faculty are entitled to paid vacation leave, professional development leave and benefits. 

FACULTY OVERVIEW:

This is an excting opportunity to join our TCM faculty and be a key member of this close-knit and supportive term. The focus of this NR2 contract is biomedical sciences. The TCM program is comprehensive including courses in English and Mandarin language, communication, Ancient Chinese philosophy, and Western biomedical sciences. The curriculum has been designed to offer an education of significant breadth and rigour within the contexts of TCM/Acupuncture fundamental theory, diagnosis, treatment, and clinical practice. 

The program's courses and labs are enhanced by practice experiences in community care and home support facilities. Graduates will have the requisite TCM core foundation, acupuncture competencies, critical thinking and communication skills needed to be safe, competent healthcare practitioners in an evolving health services landscape.
Faculty in the TCM program are leaders and experts in their field and draw on their experience to educate and inspire students. The TCM department currently offers one program, a diploma in acupuncture. This program has a strong reputation and is well attended. The program is delivered by a small and passionate group and we are seeking like-minded educators to join this enthusiastic team.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Faculty in the TCM Program are supported to teach in all areas of the program. The NR2 position includes teaching, student support, service to the school and program and professional development activities.
Faculty members are accountable for 10 months of the year. The 10 months accountable time includes such activities as teaching, the counselling of students, curriculum/program development, professional development and participation on a variety of educational committees.

Teaching duties include:

  • The development and revision of course outlines and curriculum 
  • The preparation of courses, including but not limited to course presentations, online delivery platforms, and other course related activities
  • Responsibility for the delivery of courses, including lectures, seminars, laboratories, clinical supervision, simulations, field trips, and online or hybrid course delivery
  • Student assessment, testing, and placement
  • Student consultations, including office hours (1 hour per week per 3 credit course or equivalent)
  • Work integrated learning placements
  • Submission of grades in accordance with policy

Service may include: 

  • Participation in program, department, faculty, and university committees and events. 
  • Participation in program quality assurance activities including program review and accreditation
  • Participation in regional, national and international committees and other professional organizations

QUALIFICATIONS:
The required academic credentials to teach in the TCM Program are specific to the program and are as follows:
1.

  • Master’s Degree of TCM
  • With RTCMP registered with CTCMA, no limits, no conditions, no terms.

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree in TCM
  • With Dr. TCM registered with CTCMA, no limits no conditions, no terms.

AND

2.

  • 3 years applicable teaching experience in topic area
  • 5 years relevant clinical experience.

SALARY INFORMATION:

Placement on the will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience.  Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
