Purpose of the position

Reporting to the Director Operations Finance, this role will focus on managing and analyzing deferred revenue, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance. Participate in MSD improvements, testing, and implementation as they relate to areas of responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to develop and enhance processes for recording and analyzing deferred revenue within the Software as a service (SaaS) business model and other streams of deferred revenue. Review, validate, and prepare monthly entries and adjustments related to deferred revenue, ensuring compliance with accounting guidelines and standards. Prepare and enter journal entries in Microsoft Dynamics for correcting adjustments in accordance with guidelines and cut-off deadlines. Reconciliation and maintenance of assigned general ledger accounts including ensuring the timely completion of month end activities. Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of robust internal controls throughout the monthly close process, specifically related to deferred revenue. Monitor the effectiveness of internal controls in your area of responsibility, proactively identifying and implementing process improvements and control enhancements. Provide backup for COGS/Warranty/Freight/Inventory in Transit as needed. Responsible for ensuring that all internal controls within the role’s responsibilities/area are sufficiently and appropriately performed and evidenced for the purposes of annual financial audit. Perform ad-hoc duties and projects as required, contributing to the continuous improvement and efficiency of the finance function.

Education and work experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA designation or progress towards CPA is a plus. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in revenue accounting, preferably within the SaaS industry. Strong understanding of deferred revenue recognition principles and practices. Experience with multicurrency and multi-entity accounting. Experience with MS Dynamics or other ERP systems. Experience with Deferred Revenue Module (MSD Sub-bill) is preferred. Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI). Attention to details to ensure accuracy of deliverables. Proven track record of meeting deadlines and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

This position does not have any direct reports.

Additional Details

Hybrid (Office and Home) based role in a fast-paced work environment. Timelines for reporting are tight, may require some work outside normal business hours at month end.
