Position Summary

Join our dynamic team as a Technologist II, where you'll tackle advanced technical challenges and make a real impact on environmental management. You'll provide advice on best practices and technologies, perform crucial technical analyses, and support various phases of planning, design, construction, and maintenance. Reporting to the Senior Environmental Scientist, you'll also engage in field sampling and play a key role in shaping capital projects and environmental policies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Support related to water, wastewater, and drainage infrastructure including planning, design, operation, preservation, asset management, and asset performance. Perform environmental surveillance, monitoring, and testing as part of the City of Regina source control program. Maintain equipment at City of Regina wastewater pump station facilities. Develop, maintain, and coordinate databases related to environmental management, infrastructure planning, operation, maintenance, and field inspection. Interpret results, produce reports, and make recommendations for environmental aspects of infrastructure planning, construction, and operation and maintenance programs. Provide advice on the application of technologies, methods, and industry best practices related to environmental infrastructure design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Review engineering design, material, testing, and technology/equipment standards and specifications. Oversee projects, work programs, and budgets, including contract administration. Provide guidance and supervision to junior staff, consultants, and contractors as required. Contribute to the development and review of City standards, specifications, processes, and manuals related to environmental review and management policy. Gather information and prepare comprehensive technical reports. Act as a representative in meetings with other branch staff, departments, the public, consultants, contractors, government agencies, community associations, and City advisory committees. Perform related work as required.

Key Qualifications

The knowledge, abilities and skills are obtained through completion of a two (2) year diploma in Environmental or Water Resources Engineering Technology A minimum of two (2) years experience in related environmental engineering/technical field. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply environmental engineering practices, principles, theories, computations, analyses, and statistics. Knowledge of environmental infrastructure and utility planning, management, design, materials, operations, construction, maintenance, and preservation. Knowledge and demonstrated ability with sampling and monitoring programs and laboratory/facility and field-testing procedures. Knowledge of drafting and surveying technology practices and techniques. Knowledge of effective supervision and leadership of staff. Skilled in creating tables and forms, creating formulas, creating queries and reports, modifying and customizing charts and tables, using pivot tables and cross tab queries, importing & exporting data from various sources and formats using software such as in the Microsoft Suite of Professional Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access). Skilled in managing budgets, evaluate progress and quality of environmental projects, programs, contracts, and operations. Skilled in working independently and prioritize tasks and projects. Skilled in expressing ideas effectively, in oral and written form. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relations and a promoting a respectful work environment with superiors, subordinates, co-workers, and the public. Ability to interpret, understand, and manage work in accordance with the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act, other legislation, and expectations of City of Regina’s policies, standards, practices, and guidelines. Ability to strategically plan, coordinate, and direct the work of others. Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of City policies and procedures, and legislative and regulatory requirements. Ability to develop and work with complex databases.

Working/Other Conditions

Must be eligible to register and maintain registration under Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT). Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and have a vehicle available for work usage (a travel allowance is provided). Must be able and willing to perform work of a physical nature in all types of plant, field environments and inclement conditions. Willing to periodically work irregular hours. Successful candidate will be required to provide proof of acquired education.
