As a member of the ecosystem team, you will act as a terrestrial ecologist in western Canada, with the capacity to conduct work in other jurisdictions across Canada. You will develop proposals, plan and review terrestrial ecosystem and soil mapping projects, develop effect assessments for vegetation, ecosystems, and soil valued components, conduct wetland classification and delineation, and plan mitigation for ERM projects in the mining and energy sectors. Your experience in environmental effects assessments and offset/compensation planning will be essential. Responsibilities Develop and direct terrestrial ecology and soil science field programs primarily in BC, Alberta and Northern Canada. Prepare environmental effect assessments and associated management plans in compliance with applicable federal, provincial/territorial requirements. Develop environmental permitting applications for projects in the mining, energy, and infrastructure development sectors. Perform project delivery activities such as survey field work, data collection, literature review, technical report writing, and developing recommendations for clients. Prepare proposals, including development of scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. Work on multiple projects within client expectations, ensuring quality standards on project deliverables. Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, land owners, Indigenous communities, and clients during field activities. Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees worldwide. Qualifications B.Sc. degree in Sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field. M.Sc. preferred. Designation as a Qualified Professional in Alberta and/or BC, or immediate eligibility. 4+ years of environmental consulting experience; prior experience in government, mining or energy sectors, or First Nation consultation considered an asset. Experience in Environmental Assessment and associated permitting in BC/Alberta/Northern Canada. Expertise with Federal, Provincial and Territorial regulations and guidelines pertaining to survey methodologies, environmental assessment, and mitigation planning. Strong upland and wetland plant identification. Detailed understanding of rare plant and invasive plant species survey methodologies following provincial standards, guidelines, and procedures. Understanding of terrestrial ecosystem mapping under relevant provincial systems (e.g., biogeoclimatic ecosystem classification). Understanding of soil surveys and mapping under relevant provincial systems. Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols. Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills. Driver’s license required; ability to operate a company vehicle for travel across a large geographical area. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship. Preferred Requirements M.Sc. degree in Sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field preferred. 5+ years of environmental consulting experience; prior experience in government, mining or energy sectors, or First Nation consultation considered an asset. Experience completing terrestrial ecosystem mapping projects in BC according to provincial standards, guidelines and procedures is considered an asset. For the Managing Technical Consultant, Terrestrial Ecology position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $93,309 – $103,831 (CAD) .
