About The Position:

The PEI Cancer Treatment Centre is a comprehensive cancer center that provides holistic care in medical and radiation oncology. The radiation oncology program strives to provide treatment for all disease sites with best practices which are at the forefront of today’s standard of care. The radiation oncology program treats approximately 450 patients annually. Equipment at the center includes two Varian linear accelerators, a GE CT-Simulator, and an Eclipse treatment planning system; within an ARIA oncology information system environment.

The medical physicist is a collaborative and innovative member of the radiation oncology program who uses their scientific knowledge and training to contribute to quality and safety in radiation therapy. The medical physicist is responsible to provide clinical physics support of patient radiation treatment, develop and oversee technical aspects of radiation therapy quality assurance program, and manage all aspects of radiation safety program. The medical physicist participates in the selection, installation, implementation and evaluation of new equipment and software. Through ongoing professional education and awareness of advances in the field of radiation therapy, the medical physicist has a key role in the research, development and local implementation of new best practices. The medical physicist is expected to use information technology based solutions to enhance effectiveness and efficiency within the radiation oncology program

Minimum Qualifications:

- Masters or doctorate (PhD) in physics is required.

- Medical physics certification in radiation oncology from the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine is preferred.

- Recent clinical experience in radiation oncology is required.

- A good previous work and attendance record is required.

- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record check prior to beginning employment.
