The work is project-based and sometimes requires team onsite time at client facilities to work with engineers and technical personnel. The role includes performing and supervising tasks such as researching tax law, documenting expense treatment, and completing detailed models and calculations. Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results People Create a positive team member experience. Collaborate with the firm’s key technical advisors on an ongoing development of the firm’s tools for preparing SR&ED claims, signing off on any new tools before they get rolled out and implemented. Assist the practice Principal in preparing client presentations for proposals, planning strategies, and ideas. Client Meet with clients, owners, and technical leaders to identify technical eligibility, structure projects, and uncover all SR&ED information required to prepare the T661 filing. Advise and support clients before and during any CRA technical audit for SR&ED tax credit claims and respond to correspondence initiated by CRA arguing technology aspects of the submitted SR&ED claim, if any. Value Overall responsibility for Technical Services, specific to the Resource sector, at the firm. Manage, coach and develop technical writers, including interviewing skills, effective T661 writing, and preparation of effective costing notes. Prepare some of the technical narratives for SR&ED tax credit claims of clients, including identifying specific employees, subcontractors and material expended in connection with eligible activities and determining the amount of effort. Ensure all claims are prepared, signed off by the clients, and completed for CRA filing within 60 days of the initial technical meeting. Review and sign off on all claims written by the firm’s technical writers for the Resource Sector. Ensure quality claims are prepared and submitted on a timely basis. Participate from time to time, as a resource sector subject matter expert in the firm’s other practices. Track time by client and activity codes. Perform other duties as assigned. Education And Experience Graduate degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D. level an asset) in Science or Engineering with specialization in a discipline related to the Resource Sector (i.e. geology, mineral or hydrocarbon exploration or processing, mining engineering, petrochemical engineering, geophysics), related industry and/or research experience, and a minimum 5 years of SR&ED tax credit experience required. Demonstrated high standards of professionalism with outstanding ability to work effectively and efficiently with external client personnel at all levels of management. Must have excellent organization and time management skills, strong communication skills, and willingness to learn and be a team player. Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft® Excel and have a working knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research. Certificates And Licenses Valid driver’s license required. Supervisory Responsibilities This position may require supervisory responsibilities, including training peers and checking work for accuracy and completeness. Work Environment Standard indoor working environment. Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer. Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm; interface with clients and external vendors as necessary.
