Speech-Language Pathologist, University of Manitoba Inuit Health Program Nunavut offers you an opportunity to experience a different way of life; where trees don’t block the view of the stunning landscape, and the local culture and rich history warm the coldest nights. We are looking for a full-time sessional speech-language pathologist (position subject to an annual eight- week layoff period in July and August) to work on our team of dedicated and knowledgeable S-LPs providing quality services in Nunavut schools. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting students and the school team to meet the needs of all learners. Our team of S-LPs can be based anywhere in Canada but must be flexible to travel regularly to provide services in Nunavut schools and provide virtual follow up services from a home-based office. Education & Qualifications Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology Currently registered to practice speech language pathology with good standing in any one Canadian province Eligible for certification with the Speech Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) Positions are subject to a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, an Adult Abuse Registry Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check. Responsibilities Conduct an accurate clinical assessment relevant to the client’s needs. Implement and evaluate appropriate interventions. Develop program plans for individual clients and groups that will be implemented in the school setting. Work with families, school support staff, and other health professionals to demonstrate how programs and equipment are to be used in the school setting. Develop new Speech-Language programs to address the needs of Nunavut students. Provide education to clients, their families, the school team, and other caregivers on how to implement intervention recommendations. Maintain professional competence by staying current with the latest practices and therapies to contribute to achieving the best possible outcomes for clients. Experience Experience with preschool and school-age children is required. Two or more years directly related to general clinical experience is preferred. Cross-cultural awareness and clinical experience are preferred. Knowledge of trauma-informed practice & cultural safety is preferred. Computer literacy and electronic health records experiences are preferred. Skills and Abilities Effective oral and written communication Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills required Proficiency in the lnuktitut language is an asset. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team is essential. Must have a well-developed understanding of professional responsibility and confidentiality Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Must be able to work with limited supervision, be self-directed and prioritize own work Must be able to work effectively in a remote setting with limited resources available Why the University of Manitoba?
