Senior Process Mechanical Engineer

Overview Senior Process Mechanical Engineer - Large Municipal Pump Station Design role at GHD. The position is based in the Waterloo or GTA office locations with hybrid work options. The Mechanical Design group provides engineering support primarily to Ontario and to the wider network, delivering design for process mechanical and mechanical utility services and coordinating with core disciplines to enable multi-discipline project delivery. Projects span water and wastewater, co-generation, biogas, natural gas, agricultural and food services, and industrial facility support, with variety in project size and engineering fees. This role requires flexibility to provide design recommendations across a wide range of topics. Responsibilities Engineering Solutions Design: design engineering solutions and validation processes to realize a design brief that conforms to standards, ensuring functionality, performance, and cost targets. Lead and oversee preparation of mechanical system designs, including drawing and 3D model preparation. Coordinate hydraulic and stress analyses of critical piping systems. Generate, review, and take responsibility for contract documents and specifications related to process mechanical requirements. Interact with core discipline teams and clients to achieve project objectives in a timely manner. Mentor team members (junior engineers and engineering technicians). Ensure clear technical communication across management levels and with clients and contractors. Interface with clients, vendors, and contractors as required. Contribute to engineering standards and specifications, analyze client technical specifications, and apply mechanical engineering principles and technology requirements. Process Design Engineering: specify methods and steps for plant, machinery, and equipment to design and improve manufacturing or materials processes within cost and quality parameters. Personal Capability Building: pursue ongoing professional development and maintain relevant accreditation where applicable. Engineering Inspections: evaluate the quality of engineering works and existing installations, specifying remedial work as needed. Knowledge Management: work within knowledge management systems to deliver outcomes. Contract Management: manage relationships with contract service providers within the plan. Improvement/Innovation: identify and address shortcomings in processes and procedures through change management programs. Product and Solution Development: define and deliver products/services meeting customer needs within established systems. Project Management: deliver small- to medium-scale projects within an established program plan. Education Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent Level Experience General Experience: substantial experience in its area of expertise; typically over 10 years. Managerial Experience: supervision of junior colleagues (7 to 12 months). P.Eng. designation in Ontario. Minimum of 10 years of experience in related industry; preference for municipal and industrial water and wastewater facilities. Experience designing large wastewater pumping stations for municipal regions. Project management experience is an asset. Familiarity with BIM 360, REVIT, AutoCAD, and NavisWorks is an asset. Flexibility to handle a wide range of client and project types; strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead and multitask in a team environment with high attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences including clients, contractors, and field staff. Valid Ontario driver’s license and willingness to travel within Ontario and Canada as required.
