As part of the InfoSec team at Coinbase, Security Services Group (SSG) is responsible for building and operationalizing key security controls and best practices around Identity and Access Management (IAM), IT Asset Management (ITAM), Data and Endpoint Security and Security Logging. Our team builds, integrates, and operates tools—both custom and off-the-shelf—that ensure internal systems and endpoints have proper access controls, security policies, and logs. We’re looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager comfortable building backends and frontends, with a strong understanding of security best practices, to lead a high-performing team with internal stakeholders. Being remote-first, independence and asynchronous communication are key. Your work will be used company-wide to keep Coinbase and customer crypto assets safe. What you’ll be doing: Leading a talented, mission-driven engineering team, focusing on hiring, coaching, and execution. Designing and building tools and features to meet evolving ITAM and Security Logging needs, emphasizing least privilege, risk management, and suspicious activity detection. Implementing security features like role-based access control and multi-party approval to prevent misuse. Collaborating across teams—Platform, Product, Security Engineering, Operations, Compliance—to drive requirements and adoption. Mentoring junior engineers and promoting engineering excellence within SSG. What we look for: 8+ years developing scalable systems and user interfaces, with knowledge of Mongo, Snowflake, and API standards. 4+ years managing a team of 5+ engineers on enterprise projects. Experienced in stakeholder engagement, scalable system design, secure software development, and independent work. Familiarity with security threats and best practices, though security expertise isn’t mandatory. Proficiency in Go, Ruby, Python, React, and working with databases and complex SQL queries. Nice to haves: Experience with Kubernetes on AWS. Knowledge of AI and Crypto is a plus.
