This role requires strong proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin, microservices architecture, and experience working within Kubernetes environments. You will be responsible for delivering high-scale backend services, collaborating cross-functionally with Machine Learning and Intelligence teams, and mentoring junior engineers.Work location: Mississauga, Ontario; Toronto, Ontario; Calgary, Alberta; Montreal, QuebecKey ResponsibilitiesAct as an independent contributor capable of navigating the complete software development lifecycle with minimal guidance Develop, test, and maintain scalable microservices using Java/Kotlin within a Kubernetes-based infrastructure Collaborate directly with client stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver robust backend solutions Build and maintain well-structured APIs including REST and GraphQL interfaces Support data flow and algorithmic efficiency within distributed systems and high-volume pipelines Participate in code reviews, working sessions, and technical discussions with both onsite and remote teams Mentor junior team members and assist with onboarding and knowledge transfer Technical ProfileMinimum 5 years of backend development experience in large-scale systems Proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin programming languages Strong knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization using Kubernetes Experience with GraphQL APIs Understanding of large-scale system design patterns, distributed systems, and data pipelines Functional ProfileAble to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical and client-facing teams Willing to engage with various parts of the backend stack to solve complex issues Communicates clearly in both technical and non-technical settings Comfortable working in cross-time zone and multicultural teams Demonstrates ownership mindset and adaptability in client-driven environments Skills SummaryCore Expertise:Backend Development, Microservices Architecture, API Development, Distributed SystemsLanguages & FrameworksJava, Kotlin, Spring BootReactive & Event-Driven ToolsGraphQLCloud & ContainerizationKubernetes, Docker (if applicable)Database & Messaging(If not mentioned, assume relational and/or NoSQL familiarity)DevOps & CI/CD(Assume experience working in integrated DevOps pipelines, but specifics not listed)Other Tools & TechnologiesClient Collaboration Tools, Code Review PlatformsSoft SkillsIndependent Contributor, Clear Communication, Mentorship, Cross-functional Collaboration, Proactive Problem-SolvingThe pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $37.37/hour - $58.39/hour.
