Commissioning Mechanical Superintendent - Industrial Projects Location: Calgary, AB, Canada – initial assignment in Sparwood, BC; traveling between sites as required. Requisition ID: Job Level: Senior Level Home District/Group: Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering Employment Type: Full Time Position Overview The Commissioning Mechanical Superintendent will report directly to the Commissioning Manager and lead safety performance. The role plans, directs, and coordinates daily activities of Commissioning Mechanical Technicians and supporting construction craft, ensuring all mechanical and piping systems meet highest safety, quality, and compliance standards. Responsibilities Conduct and lead daily safety meetings, promoting safety awareness. Enforce strict compliance with Lockout/Tagout and all safety policies. Perform daily spot checks of Job Hazard Analyses for each crew. Develop scoped turnover packages and associated documentation for system handover. Create work packages for system testing activities. Develop test procedures for components and integrated systems. Review drawings to verify design accuracy and alignment with field installations. Maintain and update drawings and databases for accurate “As‑Built” records. Uphold good housekeeping standards in office and field. Verify availability of spare parts and consumables for assigned systems. Perform troubleshooting and fault isolation on mechanical and process systems and provide detailed written reports. Execute system and equipment checkout, ensuring compliance with OEM specifications. Monitor progress of assigned systems and provide status updates to the Commissioning Manager. Participate in system walk‑downs, assessing construction process and identifying deficiencies or punch list items. Conduct commissioning and testing of components, subsystems, and fully integrated systems to ensure contractual and functional requirements are met. Qualifications Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or technical institution, or equivalent experience. Preference for candidates with both office and field experience. Minimum of 15 years in industrial, gas processing, refinery, and/or petrochemical sectors. At least 5 years of hands‑on experience in detailed mechanical systems engineering, including leadership or technical specialization. Strong technical knowledge of detailed design engineering processes and all major categories of mechanical systems. Demonstrated experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) project environments. Ability to work a rotating shift schedule as required by project demands. Perform work safely and follow all written and oral instructions, including warning signs and equipment usage policies. Work during normal operating hours and complete work within given deadlines, including overtime and weekends as required. Be willing to work at various locations and adapt to changing conditions.
