Role overview The Traffic Signal Engineering Technologist will be stationed at the Traffic Operations Centre and play a key role in monitoring, managing, and responding to traffic signal-related service requests. These requests may arise from field system issues, resident complaints, or congestion management needs. The analyst will ensure timely resolution and maintain smooth traffic flow across the city’s signal network. Key Responsibilities Monitor traffic signal systems and respond to alerts or service requests. Review thoroughly and familiarize themselves with all SOPs and City Policy. Perform preliminary analysis and reassignment of ALL received service requests during their shift. Coordinate with field crews, public (complainant) and internal teams to resolve signal malfunctions. Work collaboratively with City staff to address Service Requests. Log and track incidents, ensuring accurate documentation and timely updates including updating systems as per SOPs. Analyze real-time traffic conditions and implement operational adjustments as needed. Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding status and resolution of issues. Support congestion management initiatives by executing operational strategies. Escalate complex technical issues to the Traffic Engineering and Optimization team. Occasional flexibility to perform after shift field checks if/when needed, typically extending the period beyond regular 8 hours for a day. Qualifications & Experience Diploma or degree in Transportation, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). Basic understanding of traffic signal engineering, signal timing & operations and urban traffic management principles. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, shift-based environment. Excellent communication and coordination skills. Familiarity with traffic management systems and software is an asset. Previous experience in traffic operations or municipal services is preferred but not mandatory. Driving License and a vehicle needed for occasional field checks. Why Arcadis?
