CWB Welder
Job Description
This role focuses on the fabrication and welding of steel structural skids and related components used to support processing units in the natural gas, oil and gas, refrigeration, and power generation sectors. You will primarily perform flat-position welding using metalcore and fluxcore processes on structural steel, working from raw material through to fully fabricated units under one roof. This position suits an experienced structural welder who enjoys production work, interpreting blueprints and P&IDs, and contributing to large, complex engineered systems.
Responsibilities
Fabricate and weld steel structural skids that support processing units using MCAW (metalcore) and FCAW (fluxcore) processes, primarily in the flat position.
Perform approximately 95% of welds in the flat position, with the remaining work in horizontal positions or other related tasks as required.
Weld clamps, units, and other structural components according to specifications and quality standards.
Work with raw steel to fabricate skids, vessels, piping, and related components from start to finish within the facility.
Interpret and work from blueprints and P&IDs to ensure accurate layout, fit-up, and assembly of structural steel components.
Fit and align components prior to welding to achieve precise dimensions and structural integrity.
Collaborate with crane operators to safely maneuver and position skids and assemblies from horizontal to vertical to flat orientations during fabrication.
Follow established production welding procedures, including time-based targets for completing units measured in hours.
Support the full in-house process of engineering, fabrication, assembly, and preparation of units for painting, disassembly, and shipment.
Inspect welds for quality, ensuring compliance with CWB standards and internal specifications.
Maintain a safe and organized work area, adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and use of required personal protective equipment.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to resolve fabrication or fit-up issues and maintain production flow.
Essential Skills
Valid CWB MCAW (Fluxcore/Metalcore) ticket for flat position welding.
Minimum 5 years of experience in structural welding.
Proven experience working with structural steel in a production environment.
Strong proficiency with FCAW and MCAW welding processes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and P&IDs for structural and process-related components.
Demonstrated ability to weld in flat and horizontal positions with consistent quality.
Experience with fitting and assembling structural components prior to welding.
Background in production welding with a focus on meeting time-based targets and quality standards.
Journeyman or Apprentice Welder (1st year and up).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience fabricating skids and related structures for processing or industrial units.
Comfort working with cranes and rigging to position large steel assemblies safely.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to weld quality and structural integrity.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Willingness to work day or night shifts as required by production demands.
Why Work Here?
You will join a global engineering and manufacturing organization that serves the natural gas production and processing industry with end-to-end in-house capabilities, from engineering and design through manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and service. The company operates across multiple regions and offers the stability and resources of a large, established employer. Its culture is grounded in values of Integrity, Commitment, Creativity, and Success, and it seeks passionate people who want to accelerate their careers. You can expect opportunities to take on challenging work, be recognized and rewarded for strong performance, and grow your skills and career over the long term within a diverse range of projects and technologies.
Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces gas processing units and power generation units entirely in-house. You will work in a loud, heavy-industrial shop environment with extensive welding activity and frequent use of overhead cranes to move large structural skids between horizontal, vertical, and flat positions. The work involves handling raw steel, structural components, vessels, and piping throughout the fabrication and assembly process. Shifts operate Monday to Thursday on 10-hour schedules, with both day and night shifts available. Day shifts typically run from early morning to late afternoon, and night shifts run from late afternoon to early morning. Overtime is available after standard weekly hours. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required at all ti
